Treatment for blemishes and rosacea

Treatment for blemishes and rosacea

Rosacea is a reddening of the skin on the face, neck, and chest that presents with broken red blood vessels on the nose and cheekbones, called telangiectasias or spider veins, due to external stimuli such as sun, heat, high temperatures, changes in mood, stress, or internal factors such as an underlying systemic disease, medications, or vasovagal reactions.

Epidermal spots are usually recent and associated with extrinsic factors such as sun exposure or the use of photosensitizing products (topical and systemic medications). In contrast, dermal spots are older and deeper, related to intrinsic factors such as hormonal, metabolic, or pharmacological alterations.

Where can I get treatment for blemishes in Bogotá?

You can have this treatment done safely and reliably in our office with Dr. María Fernanda Benavides, a medical surgeon with a master’s degree in aesthetics and laser and with more than 20 years of experience in aesthetic treatments.

How is rosacea treated?

Rosacea treatment combines different technologies:

  • IPL (Intense Pulsed Light): indicated for reducing skin redness, erythrosis, and preventing chronic inflammation. Three sessions are recommended, with intervals of approximately eight days between each.

  • Vascular laser: used to treat telangiectasias or “spider veins” on the nose and cheekbones. The standard protocol includes 3 sessions, performed every 15 days.

  • Hydrafacial: a complementary facial treatment that includes deep cleansing, sebum regulation, intensive hydration, and sun protection. It is especially useful because most rosacea patients have both oily and dehydrated skin. Approximately two sessions are recommended, spaced eight days apart.

How is the treatment for blemishes performed?

The treatment of skin blemishes is performed using different technologies and medical devices, including:

  • Pre-depigmenting peel: should be applied topically between 8 and 10 days before starting the use of equipment, and maintained throughout the treatment, which usually lasts from 1 to 2 months.

  • Microdermabrasion and/or chemical peeling: recommended in cycles of 4 to 6 sessions, with intervals of 8 to 15 days.

  • Dermapen: a device with microneedles that allows deep penetration of active ingredients and stimulates skin regeneration.

  • Dermatological laser: state-of-the-art technology that emits a powerful light capable of reaching the deepest layers of the skin, acting on the melanocytes responsible for the production of melanin to regulate pigmentation.
